Cannot read DVD with DMF4

My copy of DMF4 will read DVD VIDEO_TS folders from the hard drive, but not from a DVD. Using a DVD, the import stalls and the DVD cannot be retrieved from the holder (refuses to open until the computer is rebooted). DVD drive is Plextor-716A. Peculiar, because DMF-3 could always read from this drive (though it could not edit the files that it imported).

What type of DVD is in the drive? Retail DVD, home made DVD, DVD that was recorded using a standalone DVD Recorder? Other?

If you Copy/Paste the contents of the DVD to your hard drive, can you then import from DVD?

Note: you cannot import from copyprotected dvd's (like retail dvd's).
