VS9 Won't start up!

Post by gordon_fan_24 »

i used VS9 up until tonight just fine, nothing has happened recently that was out of the ordinary, just now, i went to finish the project and on startup, on the splash screen, I get "Video Studio has encountered an error and needs to close" message. I can't even get into the program. I've re-installed, but that didnt work. My System:

Dell 8400
3.4Ghz
512mb RAM
42Gb free HD space

any more info needed?

Please help me solve this ASAP

Hi

Have you tried a clean install, there have been several postings regarding clean install.
Do a search for more info, but here’s one I found.

I tried to do that, but all of the {88f92...... files both in the regestry, and the install shield were missing, I couldnt find them, so I tried to go ahead with the re-install, and It still didnt work.

ok, i finally got to delete the regestry files, but it still won't work. I did a system restore, and thats making things worse for not only VS9, but for my computer

I managed to get my system restored to the beginning of the month, but now on startup I get this error message "codec trialAvtivation has a serious error"
I don't even have the trial version of the program, I have the full version. I shut down the computer last night for an hour, then I went back to editing, and it didnt work, NOTHING CHANGED, why does a program just stop working for no apparent reason, I don't get it. PLEASE HELP ME, ANYONE I'M DESPERATE!!!!

Gordon,

I have exactly the same problem! I have also tried everything that you have with similar results. I have a boxed copy of the software and have never used it before in any form. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. I will try the clean re-install this weekend and see if that works. I have also sent an e-mail of my problem to Ulead technical help. However from reading other posts I'm not expecting anything back. If I get anything I'll let you know.

I finally got a response
from Ulead Tech Support, but in my original message I
said I tried a complete uninstall, using the exact
method as was listed here (only described it a little
bit better) and it didn't work. so what did ulead tell
me.....they gave me those exact same instructions and
told me to re-install the program. They clearly didn't
read the message, or I wouldn't have gotten that
response, now I have to get even further behind,
waiting until at least Monday to get any support.

Just before you got the original error message - ie before using system restore, did any of the following occur:-

Installed any new software/service packs.
Deleted any software
Installed new hardware
Installed any new codecs.
Had a power failure.
Hit the reset button due to a computer freeze.

The problem may lie elsewhere than in your VS9 installation.

Try checking your Windows XP error messages
If you have "my computer" displayed on your desktop
right click "my computer"
manage
expand "Event Viewer"
now look at the error messages in
1. Application
2. System

Look for items with a red circle and white X inside.
Double click the error. Double click the blue link which should give you some guidance about the error found.
