Cannot create Chapters Menu

Post by Pascal Droux »

Hi everyone,

I have created chapters on a video and I have two menus:
. "Main" menu - it only contains one chapter (beginning of the video)
. "My video" Menu - it contains the chapters I have created

I would like to arrange these chapters inside either the Main menu (that would be the best !) or in a sub menu between "Main" and "My_video"...

I do not see how to add chapters in the "Main" menu
I do not see how to create a sub menu

Could someone help ?

Thanks !
Georg

At first sorry for my bad englisch. I will try to help.

For each video-project you will have in the main-menue a button. In the frist program-screen you can make chapters for each project and the program create sub-menues.
In the second program-windows you see first the main-menue and you can change there between the main-menue and each sub-menue.

you can not add chapters in the main-menu and when you add chapters in one clip the program automatic make a sub-menu.

Chapters menu

Post by dcampog »

I had exactly the same problem : impossible to have the different chapters on the first main menu.

I had this problem when working on 1 single project and in this case I think that you cannot avoid working with the 2 levels (main menu + second menu with your chapters).

Maybe one way to avoid this problem (but I am not really an expert as I am just starting with VS8) is to divide your project into several projects. Then, when creating your menus, by clicking on "Add VS projects" you insert them one after the other into the main menu. You will not need to create the second level menu with your chapters because in principle they will be on the main menu and "look like" chapters.

I hope that I have been clear enough.

I have not tried this yet but this is what I will do with my next project. Unless someone more expert than myself has a better suggestion of course.

Thanks to you two !

I think I understand the solution of creating many project and add them to the first menu... I will first create a two level menu and postpone the creation of sub-menus to a later time !

At least I will have my first DVD and see what it looks like !

Thanks and I will keep you posted when I try !

Yes, that is the correct way to do it.

1) Capture your video as an MPEG.
1) Break your input video into separate projects using either the scissors or multi-trim video (I have V8 so V7 may look differently)?
2) Insert all your transitions, titles, audio tracks etc. You can also further split each project to insert transitions between scenes which will also create markers for automatically creating sub-menus later on.
3) Render each project to a new MPEG file using "Share, Create Video File". A .upd file will also be created to mark the scenes wherever you split your project. Be sure to have the Project settings match the input video settings.
4) Create a new project with nothing in the timeline. Again, make sure the Project settings match your MPEG files exactly.
5) Use "Share, Create Disk, Add Video" to insert each of your new MPEGs into this blank Project. Each MPEG inserted will create and entry on the Main menu.
6) Use Add/Edit chapters to create sub-menu's for each. If you created .upd files in steps 2/3, you can use "Auto, Insert Scenes as Chapters" to create the chapters automatically.

That's all there is to it! :D

Dcampog,
Although your advice seems logical (and it would be if Ulead would fix some bugs), you must never select PROJECT (.vsp) files in the Share module because it triggers the dreaded TUMHCOCV bug. That is, the Totally Unneccessary, Multi-Hour, Conversion Of Compliant Videos. This is the same bug that attacks anyone who tries to burn a DVD with anything in the timeline.

Hi
If you start a new project, then insert your video file(the one you are going to burn.)
Select YES to the message ‘do you want to change the project settings to match…..’
Now delete the file from the timeline. You have an empty project, save the project.

When you go to Share Create Disc / Add Video you will find the burner settings match the video file,
you do not have to alter any settings in the burner phase.
