We have UVS8, bought by post from the makers in Germany. We have spent some weeks editing a 40 minute holiday film but when we came to the burning or create video file stage, UVS8 told us that we needed 4.6 GB but had 0 GB space on the HDD.
On the C drive (where the programme sits) we have 17.9 GB free.
On the drive where video clips are stored, we have 106 GB free.
We have 71 GB free on another internal drive.
We have tried assembling the film from 5 video projects and also from 5 rendered video files. Both play perfectly at the test stage but both routes give the same failure to recognise the space available.
Desperate to find a solution that does not lose our hard work.
UVS8 thinks that I have no room on the HDD -can't burn

Hi Martin
Have you applied the VS 8 update patches.
There are several update patches required for VS 8 which may cure your problem.
Try this link
http://www.ulead.co.uk/tech/vs/vs.htm
Select program updates version 8
Read carefully to select the ones recommended
Also select the General updates CD/Dvd burning pack
Hope this helps

Provided you have Share Create Video file your 5 completed Mpegs should be safely stored on your hard drive. A thumbnail of each video has been placed in the video library, deleting these thumbnails will prompt you to remove the files from your hard drive, not what you want to do, say NO, but that is the only way you will lose the files via VS 8.
Hope that puts your mind at rest.

Trevor Andrew: thanks to you and to Brian Chalke, we did discover how to re-assign the working area. Still have no idea how it became set on a raw data folder.
First burn was successful last night. What a relief
Now we only have to jiggle some other settings to see if we can lose a mirage like shimmer that is perceptible in some scenes.
