Using Random Transitions; making duration all the same
I have 89 pictures that I want to make into a slideshow in Video Studio 8... that's way too many to handpick all the transitions. Is there a way to make VS do that for me? Also..I want them all to be 2 seconds.. can I do that without doing them individually?:)
I appreciate your response:)

You can have VS8 do this for you.
Go to File > Preferences and click the "General" tab. Check the "Use Default Transition Effect" and then choose, on the next line, "Random."
Then, in Edit mode, at the upper left, change the Duration. What you set will be applied to all the slides.
That should do it.

Just a quick comment on using random transitions. They work VERY well, but don't seem to be totally "random". I always encounter a back-to-back series of the "album transitions" and although they are great-looking transitions, they take forever to render as compared to the "ordinary" transitions. So, I skim through the finished timeline and replace them with the ordinary transitions. I thought I'd mention this as it will save you some rendering time. Pat

What am I missing?:)

Upon rereading what I wrote, I realized I misinformed you: you probably had to select all your slides (click first, shift-click last) in order to change all the durations at once.
Or you can put in one slide and set the duration, then add the others and I believe they maintain the properties of the first one.

Hi
I think you can only change the default transition time from preferences.
From File / Preferences / General tab / tick use default transition
Set default transition effect box to ‘random’
From File / Preferences / Edit tab / set the two time boxes.
Default insert image.
Default transition effect.
Click ok to return to the preview screen.
Any image or video clip inserted into the timeline will take on the above settings.
You will have to re-insert all images for the effects to take place.
BUT you can change the duration of the image clips in the timeline,
shift click to select all clips.
from 'Clip' top right

Bringing back up this topic from the past through Search, but applying it to VS7SE...
My overall issue is that I want a slideshow to match up the time of an MP3. For easy math, say I have 100 pictures and the mp3 is 250 seconds. So I want each picture to be 2.5 seconds duration.
I can see where to set the defaults for the clip and transition duration in Preferences. But I can only set the duration in whole second intervals (1, 2, 3...), not in fractions/fps (2.5 seconds or 2 sec 15 frames). So the default setting won't work for me with the partial seconds.
The next thing I tried is to bring all pictures to the timeline at 3 seconds, then try to change the time of all by selecting all of the pics. But when I select multiple pics, the properties where you set the time is disabled/grayed out.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions besides resetting the time clip by clip (which is what I've done in past projects)?
Thanks

Not sure that this is what you want.
If you place all images in timeline using transition, titles etc
Use a duration to match the audio roughly.
Create a video file of the images without audio.
Use the new file in a new project,
Adjust the length of the file by using the 'Playback Speed' option, to match the audio exactly.
Insert your audio.
Make a new file (Create Video File)

Update...
Well, I was able to stretch the video to the length of the audio - and that worked for the time matchup. But when viewing the stretched video of still pictures I notice the pictures have some movement/noise that isn't present when the video isn't stretched. I haven't played with it enough to know if it is relative to the length of stretching or if any stretching is going to create the noise in the still pictures. If the noise exists with any stretching, it looks like I'll be back to editing the image length on 102 different frames (ugh).
