No audio after adding effects

I have just captured a home movie from my VCR. All was perfect, picture and sound. I tried to do some editing and add some effects, but when I tried to play it back, the audio was missing. Everything is fine until I try to edit it in any way. I am using Movie Factory 3.

Does anyone have any ideas?

More detail please. How do you connect your devices, project settings, clip properties etc.

Firstly I will admit that I am really new to this video tranfer thing.

I am using ADS DVD Express for transferring via USB cable. The capture is perfect, picture, sound etc. I use Move Factory 3 to instigate the transfer and it works great. Last night I even burned the video to DVD and it was perfect, sound etc. My problem is when I am in MF and try to add any transitions to my video, or do any type if editing I lose the audio. I can remove the transitions and the audio returns. Any ideas?

If you need any other info please be specific as I am truly a newbie
