I endorse jchunter's suggestions. One thing you might want to check immediately is the DV Encoder Type that VS8 is capturing in. The default is Type 2, but most people find that Type 1 works better. Typical problems with Type 2 sound like the problems you are experiencing. To change, click on the Options cogwheel icon on the Capture pane, midway down the left-hand side of the screen. This will give you the choice between Type 1 and 2. Remember that this is only if you have selected DV/AVI as the capture format.
