Capture Plug-In MIA

Post by johnallison »

I had upgraded to MSP 7.3 to capture and edit MPG. And upgraded from MovieMaker 2 to 4. Now the capture doesn't work. Tries to read from a DVD. Says I need a ULead DirectShow Capture Plug-in. The plug-in is now DVD-VR with no other options. Am not sure what VR is anyway. I record to DVD-R on output, but the problem is getting the material in. I can still use my old VideoStudio 7, but for some reason the video and sound go out of sync about a second on an hour tape making editing tedious.

How do I get/install the require plugins for MSP 7.3? Why did they break?

Thanks,
John

DVD-VR is the format used by DVD recorders.

I guess one of the installations after MSP stuffed things up. Editing mpg and rendering back to mpg will decrease quality.

We need more detail about hardware and clip properties/project settings etc.

Partial Solution and Quality Issue

Post by johnallison »

Thanks, Heinz,

Got it working with my old MovieFactory 2 LE using Ulead DSW MPEG capture plug-in and the MS 1394 Device Control to my Canon Elura2 NTSC mDV camcorder.

How do I transfer this "plug-in" to new software? Is there a special file extension I look for?

You bring up the issue of quality when editing mpg. What format should I use? When inporting the video, the key frames come first and subsequent frames are calculated. After editing if I force it to recalculate everything (no smart rendor), it should start with those original key frames which I assume are at camcorder resolution. How does this degrade the output?

Thanks for your insight,
John
