AudioEditor not saving

Post by Maukka »

I want to edit some WAV clips in AudioEditor (I use MSP 7.3); so I ope them in AudioEditor and make some adjustments with commands such as Effects->Remove Noice, Effects>Amplify or Effects>Normalize. I then try to save the changes, but AudioEditor cannot save the changes!!

I just get a message: "Unable to Save the File" "Failed to save the Fle"

Why is this? What to do?

Thanks,
Maukka

Can you save it under another filename?

Yes, the file is in use.

Save it under a new filename then use the timeline context menu to "Replace With" the new clip.

yes I can. But I would definately want to avoid that. My project is about 60 minutes long and contains hundreads of sound clips. I need to adjust them to fit together. So I may need to go back to each clip several times before I get it righ.
If I really need to save the clip under a new name every time I make an adjustment... it gets very tedious. I would every time have to import the new file to timeline so that I can see how it works (volume level etc) in its environment... and then perhaps to do the same operation again.

I thought the idea in having such components as AudioEditor in a NLE package was to "seamlessly" open clips in an associated program for edit and then simply save the changes.
Apparently not

Thanks Terry.
Using the Replace With command may make the task somewhat easier, particularly if I edit several files in one go and save all of them in a separate folder.

The Replace With command does not open the clip in AudioEditor unless I close AudioEditor in between each clip!

Is there an AudioEditor in MSP8? I wonder if it would work more smoothly with VideoEditor.

I'm experiencing the same problem. In order to avoid it, try to switch the timeline display from waveform to filename mode. After that the audio files should be saved normally by Audio Editor.
This bug has been successfully inherited by version 8, unfortunately.

In my previous post I made a mistake, I mistakenly said that the command "Replace With" would not work.
I meant to say that "Open in Associated Program" does not work unless I close AudioEditor in between.

Very sorry to hear that this saving issue has not improved in MSP8. But glad to hear that there might be a workaround. I'll try switching to filename view.

Thanks,

Maukka
