I am going to be starting on a new project consisting of a bunch of old 8mm movies that have been professionally converted for me to AVI files. The target will be a DVD that can be watched on TV. I have done this before with excellent results using VS8, but I think I used output settings that were much higher quality than my source material, basically wasting DVD space. After all, the 8mm file frames are not all that sharp to begin with, and the frame rate is only about 18 fps, so I don't need output settings intended more for modern digitals cameras.
So what would be some good settings (VS9), especially for data rate? Any other tricks to maximize content on the DVD?
