OK, I give. How do you do simple video fade ins and outs?

I am testing V9 and like what I see so far except one thing. On other editors, this is a gimmie but I cannot find it on V9. I simply want to start with black and fade in to my video. I also want to fade out to black sometimes as well. I found a third party plug-in to fade out to black. What gives? This is simple stuff. I cannot find anything in the program that allows me to fade to anything except titles.

Insert a patch of solid color before the video, then use the Crossfade transition between it and your video.

I don't have a choice of a crossfade transition in V9.

It's under Transitions > F/X.

The X-Fade is in the F/X transition library

Thanks for the replies. I knew it had to be there somewhere but just could not find it. I know where it is now. Thanks again.

Actually, I bought V8 about five months ago and it bombed on me left and right so I downloaded V9 as a trial to see if it was stable. So far, it is.

How about VS7 X-Fade

Can't find it anywhere, even in downloads?
Is there any way to fade IN to a clip or project?

As per above. place a black colour clip before the video and use the crossfade found in the fx transitions

Doesn't the fade to black transition fade to black then fade up the next clip? I am 99% sure I used this and discovered (in VS9) that there is no need to insert black and use 2 crossfades.

What version of VS are you using.
V8 trial did not have the X-Fade

Using VS 9 and 8 i see 20 transitions in the F/X library.

Although we refer to add a black colour clip, you can use any colour.
Whereas the fade to black is just that, black.

X-Fade

X-Fade doesn't seem available in VS7.

You should find it in the same location.

Trevor
OK, so if you want to fade to something other than black, then fade into the next clip, you use 2 crossfades surrounding an inserted color-clip of the desired color. If you want fade to black then fade into next clip, you use 1 fade to black transition between clips. 1 transition instead of 2, and no inserted color clip.

The Full version of UVS 7 has it, but SE versions may not. I recommend you download the Burger Transitions, they include a Crossfade transition.
