Problem with Media Library Video clips V03, V09, etc.

Post by michaeltee »

When launching VS9 in edit mode, the Media Library (upper right area of UI) opens with thumbnails from the "video" folder displayed by default. Normally there will be a collection of Ulead avi clips numbered V01, V02, V03, etc., plus any clips that I have manually imported.

Just recently, some of the Ulead clips (specifically V03, V07 and V09) are displyed NOT as thumbnail images but white boxes with a black X filling the inside. If I click on any of these white boxes VS9 immediatley crashes. I don't believe any of the Ulead clips have been deleted so I suspect some sort of corruption within the Media Library folder system.

The VS9 repair option does not correct it, nor does a normal reinstall using Windows "add/remove programs". Short of a full "clean" uninstall/reinstall does anyone know of a way to fix or troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

Hi

I do not understand why a re-install does not cure the problem, assuming you have a faulty sample file.
Maybe the indeo driver or directx is at fault (just a guess)

Your video samples are located here

C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 9.0\Samples\Video

Have you tried re-inserting the sample using the top right folder. (open video file)

Try to right click the faulty clip, if you can select delete.

I assume you do not get the option to re-link.

Strange

Just to follow-up, the "clean" install fixed the problem perfectly. As to why a standard uninstall/reinstall didn't do the trick I can only speculate that the VS9 installer does not write and/or overwrite certain files and registry settings left over from a previous installation unless it deems them corrupt or missing. As I've now discovered, when a standard uninstall is performed, there are a number of files, folders, and registry settings which remain resident (and well hidden) in one's computer until manually removed by following the "clean" install procedures detailed at < http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... ight=clean >

Although the procedure is a bit of a pain I suspect it will solve many stubborn problems that VS9 users might otherwise spend days attempting to troubleshoot.

Just an opinion of course. In any case, my thanks to Trevor for passing along the above link :-)
