Processing video title hangs at 99%

Post by mdrury »

I seem to have run into a problem -- trying to burn DVDs made from imported MPEG files. The video title processing gets as far as 99% (and 8 or 9% total process) and then seems to hang. There is still some disc activity, although not as intensive as up to that point, but there is no further progress indicated for up to 3 hours (the most I'e gone without cancelling).

I've tried different quality settings (from HQ to SP and with a customised one) - all the same. As matter of course I turn off all non-essential background programs such as firewalls etc. I do run Nero InCD - but see end of next paragraph.

MPEG file are between 6 and 9 GB and were produced by a video capture from WinDVD. I've found that that program produces captured MPEGS with a very low dropped frame rate - barely noticeable. I have successfully burned such files via MF4 - the only differnce now is that first time round WinDVD split capturing into separate files, presumably to accommodate the FAT32 file size limit. For the 6-9GB files I told it not to (hard drive is NTFS). In both ways NF4 imported them OK and played them from withing its own "remote control". Note that the time I burned a DVD successfully I was running InCD.

Am I just being impatient?

have you applied the 4.03 patch? it should fix most conversion errors in DMF4.

Yes, I have done that.

Actually I think the problem was that I didn't have enough free space on my hard drive, even though according to MF4 there was plenty for its needs. I clued in to that when I tried using WinDVD to write the project to disc for subsequent burning via Nero (MF4 wouldn't let me do that). WinDVD said there was not enough space. So I deleted a couple of big files and retried with MF4 and hey, presto, it worked. Guess I need to invest in that second hard drive!

Perhaps with MF4 I should just have given it more time.
