Rendering MF4 AVI to MPEG2 - CPU utilisation only 50%?

Post by ruggy1 »

Just bought a new computer, transfered all Ulead programs over, but when I am rendering, the Task Manager only shows CPU utilisation of 50% max. I have 3.2GHz P4 with a Gigabyte motherboard. Anyone else have the same issue? Thanks

Don't think that you have an issue. Your CPU only needs to devote half of it's capabilities to run DVDMF.

Actually, it does seem a bit strange that MF is not utilizing 100 percent of your CPU's cycles.

I can think of a couple of possibilities:

- Your hard drive is the limiting factor. The CPUis idle while waiting for the hard drive.

- Ulead did something to the program so that it doesn't "hog" the CPU. This seems unlikely, because Windows will allocate run-time to each open application... It won't allow a regular "user mode" program to hog the CPU. (A driver can take-over the CPU and not allow other programs to interrupt.)

Thanks guys. I did a test render, and even though the CPU showed 50% max it did outperform my old 2.8GHz P4 by 14% - exactly as expected. It is as if Task Manager is expecting a dual core system, but this isn't one. So I will live with 50% knowing that it is actually 100%. Thanks
