Problems saving jpegs

I am getting a problem that when I open a jpeg and modify it, PI10 refuses to save it saying it may be write protected. Checking the properties in Windows shows the file is not write protected. I have to change the file name to save it. Can anyone throw light on this? Its very irritating. Hope someone can help.

Does the original live on a CD? Where did it come from?

The folder may also be 'Read only'.

We need more detail.

Hi - thanks for replying. The pics came from my camera and had been on hard disc for some time. Although PI10 was reporting them as read only, Windows XP was not - (no tick in the read-only box when viewing properties). Since posting my query to this forum I moved the whole set of pics into another folder and miraculously the read only ticks suddenly appeared. I now suspect the problem lies in Windows XP rather than in PI10 since this problem materialised after upgrading from Windows ME. I had worked on these pics in the past without problems and have never set them to read only. Thanks again for your reply. Its much appreciated.
