Can i create a video that has an alpha channel

Post by raphwhit »

I also posted this question in the video forum but maybe this forum is better since its for ms pro
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=7087

I use macromedia flash (just got version 8 ) and ms pro 7 quite a lot

Flash now enables you to import a video with an aplha channel (that could be blue screen) so that you can make that channel transparent within flash.

The video to be imported needs to meet these specifications
http://www.macromedia.com/support/docum ... mples.html
  • 32-bit video with million+ colors
    Includes a color-key background
Is encoded to enable the alpha channel
can ms pro 7 or 8 export a video with these requirements

I know that creating a quicktime movie enables 32 bit video and that you can key out a background in the overlay properties. But i cant get the default backround to be transparent it's always a solid color, black by default, in preferences. So it seems everytime i create a video the solid background will always be there.

Any one got any ideas

AFAIK MSPro iteself cannot export 32 bit AVI's (24 bit images w/alpha), but there is a workaround that involves Cool3D Production Studio.

You can load a video into C3DPS as a background then export its project as a 32 bit video w/alpha or TGA image sequence w/alpha. Just remember to set the frame size/frame rate etc. to match that of the video.

can you key out a color in the video import in cool3d

Thanks for the idea.

From what you say it sounds like cool3d can export what i want (ie that it has an alpha background )

However i dont have cool3d but when you import video you no doubt import it into a flat plane primitive (is this correct?) if this isthe case can you key out the blue screen background of the imported movie so that the peron (filmed with blue screen can move about with absolutely no background)

If cool3d can do this i may consider purchasing it otherwise ill have to look towards aftereffects or any other prog that can do at a reasonable price

thanks

Download the free trial of DVD Production Studio and give it a try. Just be aware that it renders slowly, as most 3D proggies do even with limited content.
