Textures on 3D Sphere...

Post by cyberace »

Hello,
I am wanting to apply a image of the earth as a texture onto a sphere so that I can make a 3D earth, but I can't seem to get the texture looking right. I have played with all the settings with no luck. Can anyone give me any pointers on textures or any online examples on how to do this sort of thing. Below is the URL to the image I am trying to use as the texture, the image is the one near the bottom of the page titled "Land Surface, Shallow Water, and Shaded Topography". Thanks for your time.

What I tried was after creating a sphere, I load a object (which happens to be the sphere) texture into the preview window.
It does not have to any particular texture, cause what you are going to do is open the attribute menu, select texture and you can load a different image that you want (which happens to be the world map).

Now it is going to be tricky as you are loading a rectangular image onto a sphere (as least from the website you provided is rectangular, so unless you can use a picture or photo editor to wrap the top and bottom and split the centre, you may not find it a convincing world map

Good luck and hope what I did is not the same as what you did..

Cheers
