New to VS9, ran into a couple of serious problems

New to VS so bear with me pls.
Bought full DL version of VS9.
Install went ok did not encounter any problem. Registered the product.
Started a small test project with existing dv-avi files.
Did some simple editing, added a title and a bg music track.
No problems so far, everything seemed to work as expected.
However this behavior changed when I went to the “make” fase and from there on I ran from one problem into the next.
1. Couldn’t render to a mpeg2 file. Couldn’t make a DVD as VCD was the only choice I had. Got a message saying there was no mpeg2 codec available. Shouldn’t that codec have been installed automatically?
2. Tried to capture from TV direct to mpeg2 but was, as expected not able to. Capture to avi was no problem.
2. Tought maybe that codec is part of one of the content packs, so downloaded Pack 1. Tried to install it but got error message saying that *contentPack.exe is not a valid win32 application. Have no idea what that means. Jeez what next?
3. Again launched VS9. Loading starts but few secs after the splash screen shows up, VS just disappears without any message. No way to launch VS9 anymore.
4. Tried to DL the free HDV and mpeg4 codec and ran into the next dirty “creeck”. First time my pop-up blocker did its job and the next 4 times I got a message saying the server could not be found. 5 tries, no DL yet.
BTW I have a highspeed DSL connection.
After being busy the whole eve I got a bit frustrated, I uninstalled the damned thingy and followed my wife to bed.
Is there anybody who has some suggestions as to what is going on here?
Does anybody has an idea how to overcome my problems?

Try to download all the packs, and install them all.

The one that had an invalid .exe -- try to unzip it first (rt-click, unzip to a folder).

Thanks George for your reaction.
Will give it a try this evening.
On the missing mpeg-2 codec, do you happen to know if it is indeed part of one of those content packs?
Thanks again.

I had a closer look at the downloaded content pack. (so far I only tried to DL one of'm)
It is not a zipped file, it is an .exe file.
But, ... the properties window for the file indicates zero bytes, so something went wrong with the DL.
I seem to be unable to detect the url of the DL site. So if someone would be so kind and post that url I'd very much appreciate it.

I think you should contact tech support, especially for that HDV / Mpeg 4 plugin 5-tries-timeout thingy, and the content pack prob. Tell them your Serial number's already timed-out - I believe they'll reset it for you or something, and they'll give you the link for the 'lost' content packs.

That is exactly what I've done a couple of days ago. Still waiting for an answer. Dissapointing. :(
