background audio for menus

Post by grayjay »

I have been having trouble with setting up background audio tracks for menus - basically everything looks fine in the preview windows, but once the disc has been burnt, the audio is either fragmented, only plays for a second or two, or disappears altogether. Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

You would have give us more info, like your system's specs, the properties of the audio and video you're using, and the burner and discs you're using.

I'm running Ulead VS9 on a Dell Dimension 3000 with 160Gb of memory and 256 Mb of RAM. The DVD burner is a Philips DVD+-RW DVD8701. I've been succesfully burning MPEG files with wav or wmv audios, and the playback is fine for the actual video, but it is in the menu that I have the problem.

As an example, the project I'm working on at the moment has a main menu and chapter menu, and there are three pages of the chapter menu. I tried 'track 1' for the main menu and 'track 2' for the chapter menu. The first time I burnt a disk, the main menu with track 1 played fine, but the chapter menus background audio kept starting then stopping after a few seconds. I tried again, and this time got nothing. A third attempt left me with the same stop/start on the main menu with track 1, and on pages 1 & 2 of the chapter menu with track 2, but page 3 of the chapter menu with track 2 played perfectly.

I have tried converting the format of the audio, using wav, wmv and mp3, but still get similar results. The discs I have been using are either TDK DVD+RW 4.7 GB 1-4x, or BRTechDVD+R 1-4x.

Any ideas?

Download the latest CD/DVD Burning Pack from Ulead's site:

Try using a DVD+/- RW as a test disc so you could erase it and try again if you still get the same result. That way, you'll be saved from having a lot of wasted discs (although you could use 'em as coffee coasters ei? :) )

Enable 'Buffer underrun protection' on the Burner Advanced Settings, and use the lowest burning speed possible. I also noticed that your RAM is 256mb; closing other apps in the background and unplugging other external devices could help VS9 get that much needed memory. Also try and increase your Virtual Memory.

Tried that - still no luck! The problem seems to be not in the burning but in the VS prearation stage after I tell it to burn to disc. For some reason it doesn't seem to be converting all of the background audio tracks - just some of them sometimes. Has anyone else had this problem?
