RESOLVED! -- Does any one understand this???

Post by pixgirl »

When i attempt to open PhotoImpact 10 - I get an error message that states:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime error
Programm: C\..... iedit.exe
abnormal program termination

When I click the Ok button the program shuts down.

The program had been fully functional. The only change I can really trace is an install/upgrade of Java.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and no luck.

Any suggestions????????

It is not enough to just uninstall and reinstall the program if some of the required dll's have been damaged. A new install may not overwrite the damaged file since it is already there.

To reinstall the program here are the steps that Ulead suggests:

1. Please launch Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder>Options and on the View tab check "show hidden files and folders".

2. Empty contents of your Temp folder under C:\Windows\Temp.

3. Uninstall Ulead PhotoImpact using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.

4. Go to C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems then delete the PhotoImpact folder.

5. Go to Start > Run and type: "regedit" then click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program. Go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Uninstall and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

7. Locate the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead PhotoImpact, delete the said entry.

8. Please delete all PhotoImpact folders on the ff: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\

9. Close regedit and restart your computer.

10. You can now proceed to reinstalling PhotoImpact. Be sure to logon as Administrator before installing your software to avoid restrictions.

Note: Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

As always, prior to editing the registry, make sure you have a backup of the existing one in case something goes wrong. You can render your system useless by corrupting the registry and that is easily enough done. If you are unsure of your abilities, get professional help with this.

presumably you have tried going back a restore point or two if your O/S supports it?

Still need help

Post by pixgirl »

I followed the instructions given for uninstalling and reinstalled -- still getting the same error message. I can't figure this out -- it was working fine and then all of a sudden it stopped working and gave this error.

The only other thing that coincides with the change is - my daughter downloaded some aol browser tool... which I have uninstalled...

any siuggestions -- I am frustrated!

Normally I would suggest contacting tech support, but now that support is only in taiwan and the fact that i have been waiting for support for over a month now, I say your only hope is that some kind person here has some advice.
Good luck Pixgirl!!

Holy cow.... :( -- Taiwan, huh?
Well, I guess I won't hold my breath waiting on a reply from them then. I will continue to hope that someone can offer me some assistance here....
Thanks for the heads up!

Good support!

Support may be in Taiwan but I have to say my experience with them was great. Received a response within 24 hrs and it fixed my issue. So - don't be discouraged .... Thanks to all who tried to help -- BTW -- it was a compatibility issue with SP2 which was a background dopwnload so I never thought to check it.

Thanks for your feedback pixgirl,

it may not suit the "Ulead bashing club" but, for the benefit of everyone else, it shows that they are not totally hopeless. So glad it worked for you.

Thank you Heinz,

After I posted I saw some of the bashing going on and am saddened by it to be honest. It demonstrates how quick we are to attack one another. So sad... and not how our maker had hoped we'd be I think....

I can certainly understand the frustration with the bugs in the new version - I would be ill about it too - and am glad I got a heads up before I took the same path --- BUT --- if we all would take a deep breath from time to time and remember that we are ALL just human and every one of us in a position at any given time to mess up -- maybe we'd all use a little more caution when we attack lest we find ourselves as the attacked.

Thank you Heinz for your time and attempt to help me. I hope that the people who are obviously so frustrated and incapicitated by their situation receive resolution quickly. There is not much worse than a situation that hinders your production and being unable to find a solution -- been there, done that...

Peace to all....
