Install problems

Post by codesign »

I've seen a couple of posts that sound like the problem I'm having, but no one provided any solutions.

I just downloaded MF 4 from the Ulead web site and tried to install. I have the following info:
1) I'm installing on Windows XP Home;
2) The first several times I tried to install, the end user license agreement box was empty. On later attempts to install, the end user license agreement box was filled (with the end user license agreement text);
3) On every install attempt, the Country list box was empty. It appears that the country.dat file is not being extracted from the install files;
4) On every install, I get the message that the installer is looking for a pftxx.tmp file where xx is some number. I can't get past this step in the install because even if I specify the correct location, it says it can't find it.

I think the problem is that the installer is not extracting all the files to the temp directory. I had this same problem installing the trial version, but eventually, the trial install worked. I don't know why. Unfortunately, after paying for and downloading the real version, I've tried installing at least 10 times and nothing seems to work. Can anybody help?

Problem solved

I called tech support and they knew immediately what the problem was. For anyone else who runs into this, here is the workaround:

1. Go to Start --> Run;
2. In the Run window, type 'msconfig' and click OK. This should launch the System Configuration Utility;
3. On the General tab of the System Configuration Utility, select the 'Diagnostic Startup' radio button;
4. Click Ok;
5. Reboot your computer;
6. Run the Movie Factory installer. It should succeed this time;
7. After installation completes, run msconfig again and on the General tab, select 'Normal Startup'.
8. Reboot your computer.

Apparently this is a known bug with InstallShield.
