Problem with Hauppauge PVR-250 capture

Post by sydmc »

Hi, I can't get my PVR-250 to capture video within my retail version of Video Studio 9.

When I select the capture tab, I get the message

"Unable to switch to Capture Mode.
Check if your video capture driver is working properly

Can not preview

[15200:33:0]
[15023:4:2]"

I have downloaded and installed the Ulead VideoStudio 9 Hauppauge hardware devices support pack.

I am running an AMD Athlon 64 with 512M ram, WinXp sp2

Any suggestions?

Are you sure you installed the Hauppauge update for VS9, not VS9 SE? The dialog boxes on Ulead's support site look almost identical. Also, were you able to use the capture tab and switch to capture mode prior to installing the patch?

I definately installed the v9 update - I saw the SE version on the web stie as well, so paid attention to the version I donloaded.

No, I have never been able to get capture working. Do you have a 250 working for capture?

Firstly disconnect any other capture devices you have such as a camcorder or webcam - they seem to cause conflicts with each other.

Now start VS9. Then select the capture tab.
Now select Capture Video.
If the error message pops up, change "format" to DVD
Now select the edit tab again.
Now select the capture tab again. This time you shouldn't get the error.

The TV channel number on mine is different to that which it should be.
"slowly" move up and down the channels, you may find them 3 out or even 10 out. It sometimes takes a few seconds for the channel to "kick in" so be patient.

Yes, I do have a PVR250 working properly with VS9 however in my case it's the USB2, not the PCI version. So far I haven't experienced channel errors or conflicts with my Logitech "QuickCam Zoom" or Pinnacle MovieBox Deluxe. That said, I do agree that removing any potentially conflicting devices (at least until the 250 is working) is sound advice.

In your situation, what troubles me most is the fact that you receive an error message simply by clicking the capture tab. If all else fails I'd recommend a full uninstall of VS9 followed by a reboot and then running a safe registry cleaner such as Registry First Aid or Registry Mechanic. I would then once again reboot and re-install VS9 followed by the Hauppauge patch. At this point I'd try switching to capture mode. If all is well, continue installing the VS9 update pack, HDV plugin, MPEG4 Plugin and (if necessary) additional content, re-testing the capture utility after each installation. Granted, this process will probably take 45 minutes but should rule out the possibility of a previously corrupt VS9 installation as the cause of your capture problem. With complex applications I've often found this method to be more effective than spending hours or days troubleshooting ;-)

After playing around with the capture settings, I changed the format from DVD to AVI, and I get the picture from the pvr250. However, I still can't get the audio output. (Same with MPEG format)

I have changed the capture plug-in from the Tools menu between Ulead DirectShow Capture plug-in, Ulead DSW MPEG Capture plu-in, and Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture plug-in, without any effect.

I am using an AMD Athlon64 with a Gigabyte K8NS motherboard (on-board Realtek AC97 sound)

Any recommendations on the audio settings?

Thanks.
