Importing and Creating New Vector Objects for PhotoImpact

Post by TommyHill »

I was working with the text libraries today and edited some of the vector shapes to create new shapes. I found it very difficult to work this way... Is there a better way to import new shapes into the library using other vector drawing programs ? ( Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, AucoCAD, etc. )

I like this feature for rendering 3D logos... the results are very good, but need a better way to draw the objects.

Any advice will be much appreciated...

I found an answer to my own question... It's possible to import AI, WMF and EPS vector images into PhotoImpact.

I'm currently using version 8 of PhotoImpact and see no selection for importing AI files.

Which version of PhotoImpact is necessary for the import of AI ( Adobe Illustrator ) files ?

Open any image... or start a new one. This will activate the tool panel. Select the Path Drawing tool\Custom Shape. At the lower right of the Custom Shape menu, there is an Import button. Select the Gallery where you want to import the .ai files.. and click the Import button.

I found it :) but I noticed it imports custom shapes as single paths only. Is there a way of importing objects with multiple paths ?

I created 2 squares, 1 circle, and a 1 triangle as a test AI (adobe illustrator) file... I could not import the object because it had multiple paths...

Is there a work around so I can import complex logos... ?

Not that I know of. They are all merged as a single object. It would be nice if you could. I have a ton of .wmf files that have many many vectors in them. Would be nice to import them just as they are and be able to delete the parts I don't want.

The only way I can see to accomplish this is.. save each part of the logo as a separate object, then import each part ... and put it back together in PI but that's far too much work. Maybe someday.... :)
