2GB .avi which MF4 thinks is 6GB!??!?

Post by Greenbum »

Hi, I'm a first time user and already have a problem.
I imported a movie file which is a 2GB .avi and down the bottom in the bar where it says how big the file is, it thinks it's 6GB (which is too big to burn to a normal 4.7GB DVD). I really fail to understand how putting it on DVD would TRIPLE the size. Similarly, I had another 700mb .avi an MF4 thought it was 5.7GB (again, too big to burn to a normal 4.7GB DVD).

what's going on?

Ok, seems to like MPEGs a lot more, also doesn't use 100% of the processor, but that's stil no excuse because 90% of my videos are .avis

Two things spring to mind, how long do the avi's run for and what is their resolution. MF4 will have to convert the files to dvd compliant sizes, also at normal compression you only get 90 - 120 minutes on a dvd.

If your avi's are longer than 120 minutes they will tyake up more space when converted

the program is telling you how much space you will need because your source videos (the .avi's) are non dvd compliant, and will need to be encoded based on the properties set in your project settings.
