Failed to Build a Capture Graph
Has anyone ever seen this error message? I am using a Sony NetworkHayndycam IP connected by fire wire to ULVS9. Video Studio recognizes my equipment, etc., but when I go to capture video it gives me this un-numbered error "Failed to Build a Capture Graph." Ever seen this? Any ideas? Thanks. Jhay

Yes, I have seen this error.
If you have more than one capture device on your computer
eg, Camcorder, TV card, Webcam then VS9 comes up with this error if:-
your devices conflict with each other so it doesnt know which to use.
To cure this I found I have to disconnect the WebCam to allow VS9 to "see" the camcorder. The Webcam is USB but the Camcorder is on a firewire.
Also... if like me you have a TV card, VS9 will only "see" the camcorder if I set the recording format to DV or AVI. If I choose any of the other options it only sees the TV card.
I used to get this error when I tried to capture from my Hauppage TV card until Ulead recently put a Hauppage TV Card patch on their website.
Interestingly, the TV channel numbers are all out by 3.
Where I live BBC1 should be Ch 46 but VS9 sees it at 49.
ITV should be at 43 but VS9 sees it at 46 etc.
There are no doubt lots of other causes, I have just mentioned the one's I came across.

Thanks. I don't have multiple devices, but have played around a little and think it must have something to do with my video capture card. It is not on the list of unsupported cards and my device manager says it is working properly, but VS9 will not switch to capture mode. I'll keep at it, I guess.

Hi, jhay. I got this error for the first time last night. I'm using Mediastudio Pro 7.3, but the Capture module is siimlar to VS from what I understand. I do have multiple capture devices, but the problem for me seemed to be the order in which I attached my camera.
I have a Panasonic GS-120, and video capture works much better for me when I:
1) Load Video Capture
2) Connect the camera
3) Power on the camera
...in that order. If I try to power on the camera first, and then enter the program, it often doesn't work (i.e., doesn't find the device properly).
To make a long story almost unbearable, last night I had the camera powered on and VidCap loaded, and then connected the Firewire cable. That sequence seems to have caused the error. I turned off the camera and used my normal procedure, and the error went away.
I don't know if this helps you, but if not, hopefully it'll help somebody else.
