unable to open the file

Post by exceldent »

:x
I got the error "unable to open the file" 16213:2:2
I am using MSP6VE. The program had a problem and closed. I reopened the program and then tried to open the file and I got the error.
I went to the .dvp file on the hard drive and tried to open it from there and I got the error " the file format is not supported" or something like that. Is there a way that I can save this file? I hope that I did not loose it or that it is corruted.
I would like to know if there is a way to still open it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible that it's corrupted, but it might be MSP6VE to get corrupted. You can re-install MSP6VE to try.

I am able to open other .dvp files. I also downloaded MSP7 trial, after the problem, to see if it would open the file. that did not work.
I believe the file is bad because, the .dvp file is only 2.50kb for about 1 to 2 minute edit.
Thanks

Not that it helps you, but I just encountered the same problem. I have about 80 hours of work into a 2 hour video and I can't open it.

You want to talk about being royally ticked off with a program....

save more than one file

I had someone from another forum suggest that I save the file twice.
I am now saving at least twice maybe three times once the file is longer.
I save it under the same name, just 1,2,3, and put them on different hard drives. Just in case one of the drives fail also. You can also save different versions if you want to go back to an earlier edit, or compare two different edits.

Good Luck

The file might get corrupted for many reasons. RAM is not stable, disk is not defragged properly, overclocking the CPU, or power-off the computer suddenly. So I think to save it twice or more is an good suggestion.

Select File->Preference->General (or press on F6) in MSP you will find a setting named Automatically save every n minites. I think to check it on might be an solution, too. :)

Hope this helps.

@htchien,

that maybe basicly is a good thought, but on the other hand it may cause you new problems up to real program crashes depending on the actions you perform, when the autosave function does its work.

And with that crash you have a good chance that your Autosaved *.dvp file goes to hell, too.

Therefor a lot of users in germany don't use AutoSave.

Instead we use CTRL-S to Save in betwen and the other recommendation to use different *.dvp is fine, too especially in greater projects it may be fine to use day by day a new *.dvp and in addition to handle larger projects in smaller pieces, which become puzzled togehter when all is ready.

Yes, I agree with you.

Save the project in manually should be a good solution.

Happy New Year.
