I wanted to send edited video back to my digital camcorder via the firewire for eventual transfer to a VCR tape. Keep getting the "tape is write protected" or "camcorder doesn't include record feature" message.
Thought it was my camcorder so I borrowed my friends and received the same error message. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Save to Camera VS7; "camcorder doesnt include record fe

Are you switching the camcorders to 'VCR' or 'PLAY' mode or whatever the mode is called on your camcorder when you play the tape to TV direct.
Not all camcorders can accept DV-in especially if your in Europe - so if you posted the make and model of you and your friends cameras that would be a help. also a little more detail on exactly how you are exporting to your camera - what steps do you take what buttons do you press in UVS

Might I also ask whether you are using Windows ME (or a version other than XP)? I ask because I used to suffer the same problem using VS 7 with Windows ME... If you do, I may have a possible solution, but as it is relatively lengthy, and relates principally to Win ME or non-XP systems, there is no point in repeating it here if you are in fact using XP...

Glad you solved the problem. When I was having my own problem exporting, back when I used ME, I solved the problem by using Video Wave to send my video back to the camera.
Ironically, though, Video Wave was part of the original problem!! I believe Version 6 and previous versions of that program installed a codec called DVSoft which clashed with the codecs of other programs and caused this export problem. What's especially annoying is that, from what I understand, the Codec is not even required by VideoWave if it is being run on an OHCI-standard FireWire card or port. Once the codec was removed, the problem went away...
