Common Problems

Post by Phinehas »

Reading some of the other post I see that others have the problem of very slow or locking up when in the first step of the burnnng process - converting title..or something like that.
I've actually burned a couple of DVD's with no problem and good speed. But it seems just at random it will go very slow or stop in the fist converting step. I start over and maybe or maybe not it will work that time. I've downloaded the latest patch to MF4. If someone has posted a fix for these problems I've overlooked it. If there is one and someone knows what it is will you please let me know.
I have AMD 3200+ 1gig ram 2 180gig hard drives.
Thanks,

Had a similar problem with locking up and having to junk countless dvds.

After reading other post, I removed the Data Add portion of MF 4. Can do so by going to control panel/add or remove programs/MF4/change remove/modify, then and deselect "uncheck" ulead data-add and hit next.

Also update your DVD firmware if you can to its current version (should be on their website as and update or patch. I did this on my pioneer DVR-109XL and all seems well.

Hope it helps,

Thanks Grrett.
I uninstalled and then reinstalled MF4 then added the latest patch again and I managed to get 1-1/2 hour DVD made in about 30 minutes. Now getting that to repeate is what I'm waiting to see.
I use the Data Add so I don't really want to uninstall it at this time. As far as updating my DVD firmware I'm about to update my DVD burner. I have a LiteOn and I've heard they're not exactly one of your better brands. I considered doing that before my MF4 problems. This just adds to the reasons to get a new bruner.
Thanks for the input and if I can't get a good burning the next time I try I'll give uninstalling Data Add a shot.

Make sure to have the latest update 4.03 installed.

If you open up "My Computer" and right-click on the dvd writer most
conflicting software will showup. If data-add is installed it will be displayed.
Conflicting programs can be any packet writing software such as:
Nero InCD.
Roxio "Drag To Disk"
(Look for those and any others).

If more than one packet writing software is installed they will conflict each other to control the drive. Packet writing software needs to monitor the drive and know when the disk is ejected so it can be updated before releasing the drive door.

Make sure only one packet writer is installed. I've been using data-add and it's working very good.

I have a Lite-On burner that is very picky on the brand and speed of dvd-r's. Seems like my Lite-On unit loves to burn DVD+R disks. No problems with them.
Some of the newer higher speed media (8x and higher) aren't that compatible with older drives.

Hope this helps,

Thanks MD
As stated in my previous post I have the latest patch and for now all is well. Just waiting to see how long the stability holds out.

My LIte-On is 8x (R+ only) and is only about a year old. I'm using Maxell 8X R+ DVD's. When I'm burning it says it's burning at 3X.... and yes, I have the settings to 8x in hardware and software. I used another brand and it burned at 4X because it was a 4X DVD. I think it's the Maxell's problem and not hardware or MF4.

I have no coflicting software showing up in "MY COMPUTER"

Thanks for your input and if I start having problems again I'll refer back to these post's and see what happens.

Thanks again!
