Hi,
Starting to look at new computers of late. Especially since NVIDIA I can't get an update for my GT640 for a few years.
They have a lot to choose form and I want to utilize all I can on video. Some made for gaming are up to 1000. I am just wondering if.
I need something with all that much power? Is it necessary or beneficial to get something that. Some have had more experience than I have. Already plan about 32 meg in the ram, without the video card. Thanks Bruce

Brucefl,
Honestly, every one of those video cards you named are great for gaming performance and overkill for editing. Some members have been able to see optimal GPU acceleration performance using VSP. My experience: Other NLE - YES, Corel - NEVER.

Reviews claim Video Studio 23 supports AMD gfx cards.
Therefore I'd not go below their 7600 card from last year.
I believe its the cheapest card out there that can do AV1 encode.
If you are looking to go cheaper than that (<$250), then I'd probably go 2nd hand. AMD 5600 or nvidia 1060 6gb. These can both do H265 encode. Cards older than that (ie 2015 and earlier) tend not to.

Actually I don't need to go cheaper though I prefer Nvidia. I just don't want to overdue it with more than I need.

Not suggesting DaVinci Resolve over VSP just showing a thorough review of how hardware and benchmarks play a role with a professional NLE. I think performance-wise VSP is not optimized to utilize the latest cards. If one were to conduct these same tests with VSP, I'd venture to say there would be little to no difference between 3000 to 4000 series Nvidia cards or the AMD variants teabank suggested.

In my experience, which is this, or that, after using CVS on a LOT of different systems, I'd honestly save your cash. I've tried quite a few cards and I, eventually, simply end up changing back to the Intel option. It's a bit of a pain, owning such powerful kit and not being able to utilise it. I have other examples. I've created giant raid 0 mega-ninja machines and CVS basically ignores the extra resources.
If you're not playing AAA games, possibly go for a 2060. Even that's overkill. As above, a 1060 would be a good fit.
CVS works perfectly* fine on a Surface Pro 9, as well as a 12th Gen I3 Nuc. It also worked perfectly* fine on an Asus Rog Ally and Ayaneo Air plus. Hardly the fastest kit out there. 16Gb is pretty much standard and will be, according to a few articles, the standard for Windows 12. As you mentioned, 32Gb would be perfect.
*As in, it created the project and saved the final video. CVS often crashes!

Actually... I'm currently creating a project and during the proxy creation, CVS 2023 is really using both cpu cores AND the iGPU. Finally. It's using more cpu than gpu, but it's nice to see this.

Consider what other software you might be using to. If a gamer, photo editor, using other editing software.
But honestly, you can't go wrong with any modern card. I just choose AMD.
