Where do my files go when I save them?

I know it sounds like a really silly question but I think the gremlins are loose. Tonight i was working on photos, calling them up from my Collections folder using the Manage key. I made some changes, then clicked the Save icon. (the one that looks like a disc). When I called the file up again, it was the original! Only when I click the Save As icon, (disc with an arrow), does the photo get saved with edits and the little arrow in the upper left corner showing it's been saved.

I looked under File, Preferences to see if the files were being saved somewhere else and there was something I should change but I didn't see anything. Also, I noticed my EXIF info is on; I want it off and I can't find that either.

If you are using PSP 2023 then this is a known problem.
I only use Save As these days as my images were getting saved all over the place when I used Save. PSP was not saving back to the original file.
To find some of my images I had to search my files with the file name so I suggest you do that or look in folders you know you may have accessed recently with PSP.

Thank you, patara! You have helped a lot. I'm wondering if the wandering files has to do with AI? And yes, this is PSP 2023 Ultimate. I can't believe I spent that money just to have this happen. I want PSP 2018 back! That never gave me any problem.
