Text cutout without cutting out attached object

I'm trying to cut out text without cutting out the object it's wrapped around but for some reason PSP also cuts out the object even when only the text is selected and the object is invisible. This is really strange behaviour to me. The only workaround I found is to convert the text to paths and then delete the object but that also makes it uneditable. So I have to resort to duplicating the layer for this which I then delete afterwards. Has anybody found a way that still leaves the original design intact?

Never mind this. Solved it by deselecting the fill in the properties and setting the stroke width to zero.
