I got this on an mp4 video (improper argument,) but was able to finish editing the video. It plays on the computer and will not play on my smart Sony TV. Never had a problem like this before.

The Improper Argument has been reported several times, although annoying to reboot the program does not seem to affect the quality of the final video.
There is one instance caused by a couple of mouse clicks, it affects the layout of the User Interface.
If you are having issues with playing your video I do not think the Improper Argument is the cause.
Re-booting the program would allow you to complete the project.
What are the properties of the video.
MP4 uses different codes, have you tried different MP4 settings.

I got it working fine.
