computer locks up

Downloaded both videostudio and movie factory free trials (I'm NOT gonna drop $200 unless I can try it out). Both lock up the computer with every single action, every one, that I try. I've got windows XP and disabled all antivirus, antipsyware, ghostsurfer, etc, and the MyDVD Deluxe, which I'm currently using. Nothing helps. Since tech support at ulead is horsebleep, I'm hoping someone here can help me. Also tried to download patches, but since I have a trial version, that didn't work either. I'm not happy with Sonic MyDVD Deluxe. But it is a gazillion times better than either of these "junk in a box." Any suggestions (other than stay with MyDVD)?
