Crop to Selection in PSP 2023 returns error message

Post by HarryHauser »

Anyone else using PSP 2023 (version 25.2.0.58) having trouble with cropping to a selection? I get an error message saying that there is an internal error. It doesn't lock up, but just doesn't allow the cropping. Have done a fresh install, with no luck. While the website says there's an update (#2), when I try to apply it, it says there is no need for any updating. Has anyone found a work-around or know of a fix?
Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum.

The current version of PSP 2023 is 25.2.0.58 so if that's what you have, that's all that's needed.

It just so happens that in the past few hours I have had 25 separate photos which I needed to crop, and two or three of them I had to go back to and crop some more. I never had any problems with cropping at all. What selection were you trying to crop to? Did you vary the selection, and if so, did that work? Does free form cropping work?

Hi, Ken . . .
Good to know it's up to date.
The sequence was: I call up the image; then using Layers, promote to background (becomes a raster layer); then select a preshaped format (I used the circle, the ellipse, and two others, sorry don't recall which); then select from vector object: then back to image menu and crop to shape . . . sometimes I get this error message:
Command Name: Crop
Error Text: This operation could not be completed because the current layer does not contain any active data within the current selection area
. . . and other times I get a different one:
Internal program error: Invalid parameter has been passed to a function

Does any of that sound familiar?

Ken . . . Got it now! You can delete the sequence of notes! I wrote out the sequence of steps, and I see that I had skipped one, and repeated the same mistake each time I tried it with different images and different shapes! My fault!
Please accept my apologies . . but thankful for your time!

What was the forgotten step? It might help others avoid making the same mistake if you tell us...!
