VS 2023 Ultimate sound mixer bug?

Post by ldor »

Hi,

I've recently updated to VS 2023 Ultimate and have just noticed strange behaviour. I just click on the Sound Mixer and the clip volume goes down a lot, I can hardly hear anything. Deactivating the Sound Mixer or pressing Undo does not help. Even more strange is that the volume goes down starting from the moment where the scrubber was when I clicked on the Sound Mixer, until that moment the volume is normal. Also, if I click on the clip, the volume is ok. But if I cick on Project (next to the Play button) the volume becomes low again. And the rendered video also has the same low volume starting from that same position.

I've noticed that if I start a new project this buggy behaviour disappears. So this seems to be a solution to implement for the time being (did not check it thoroughly though, so I don't know if at some stage this bug may come up again).

I wonder if anybody else encountered the same thing and if there is a fix to it.

I've been trying to emulate your problem. I have inserted a number of different types of video into the VS2023 timeline: mpeg-2, mp4, H.264 and H.265/HEVC. I've opened the sound mixer and the volume of each clip has remained the same. I've toggled between Clip and Project modes, but again the sound level has remained the same. So I can only say I am having no problems. Hopefully someone else who may be having the same problem as you will come in here...

Thank you for trying. Yes, definitely it is not a common problem otherwise there would have been a lot of post about it already. But in my case it happens every time I open VS and insert something into the timeline.

I have to confess that I almost never use the sound mixer. I find I have more control (at least for me!!) by using the old but simple 'rubber banding'. In other words I insert marking blocks into the sound track line and pull the line up or down, leaving the fade out and fade in by inserting other marking blocks. This has always worked well for me. Have you ever done that instead of using the sound mixer?

In fact, I also use the sound mixer rarely. And I did try to pull the sound track line like you said. But, on the one hand, I feel it easier to use the sound mixer and sometimes I even have to do things that can't be done with the sound track line, like copying one stereo channel onto the other. And, on the other hand, it's not a nice feeling when something does not work properly, so I would like to sort it out.
