How to exclude background from a transition?
Hello everyone,
I have an animated background inserted on the video track and a movie, cut at the sides with the PIP Path effect, inserted on the overlay track. The problem is that when I try to apply a transition on the overlay track, the latter also affects the video track (background). Is there a way to not involve background in the transition or a workaround for this problem?
Thank you

Also keen to hear if there is.
Without compositing the PIP itself (turning it into a sub project) and then bringing that into your timeline I don't believe so. Sub projects in a timeline are not as easy to use as I would like, but I'm keen to be shown how to if it is.

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
There is an option to choose Overlay transitions, as the name suggests these affect the overlay clip and not the background. Quite a few transitions available
Not on my pc but from memory the All transitions list has a catigory for Overlay Transitions

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
Most of the time I have no problem keeping the Overlay Transitions on the Overlay Track. I would have thought that even using your example , the transition would remain restricted to the Overlay Track

To exclude the background from a transition, you can use the following CSS code:
transition: all 0.3s ease-in-out, background-position 1ms;

transition: all 0.3s ease-in-out, background-position 1ms;

Ahhh cool.
It's a subset of the transitions and they do work perfectly on overlays, thanks Robert.

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
Like canuck, I too really can't see what you are talking about. Yes, the little bit of code you gave appears to be in correct form for CSS code (Cascading Style Sheet) as far as I understand it (which is very little). But as far as I can see, CSS code is used with HTML. So can we assume you are talking about when a video project is going to be used on a website...?
But there is nothing in the original question in this thread which suggests the project here is going to be eventually used that way...

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
That's right Ken, no HTML, just an MP4 or MKV video as the result. This is an example of the problem:

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
Airone, please confirm that the transition you are using is from the OVERLAY Transitions folder, because it looks like you are using the Accordion transition which is NOT available as an Overlay Transition

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
Hi RobertOZ,
the transaction does not come from the OVERLAY Transitions folder (40 transactions), but it is one of the many transactions that crowd VS: it was just an example. My real need was for the Turn Page transaction which served to follow a logical thread in my creation, but which however behaves like the one displayed. I was therefore looking for a switch or a workaround to allow any transition on overlay track not to involve other tracks in the animations.

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
Have you tried turning off the tracks you don't want to change? You do this by clicking on the camera icon on the left in the timeline. Only then apply the filter. I was also experimenting with this yesterday.

Re: How to exclude background from a transition?
If I turn off the track that I don't want to change, the track doesn't stay still, it disappears.
