Hello everyone,
I just tried to import a video made with an iPhone into one of my projects, but in addition to appearing of poor video quality, it also has audio synchronization problems. Yet if I play it with other Windows video players these defects are not there: the image is good and the audio is synchronized. I also noticed that on the video icon in the timeline there is a green dot which I don't know what it means.
Is there a way to solve these problems?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Problem with video import
This usually indicates that you have your iPhone set to use variable frame speed and VideoStudio does not like that. We usually suggest that you put the video from the phone through a converter program (like the freeware Handbrake which quite a few of us here use) with similar settings to what the camera uses but a standard frame rate such as 29.97 fps (or 30 fps) for NTSC video or 25 fps if you are in a PAL country; or 59.94/60 fps NTSC or 50 fps PAL. Normally this would produce video which VS can handle properly and which will look better on screen. I would also look at your phone's camera settings and use one of these standard frame rates for future video from it if you intend to continue using VS.

Re: Problem with video import
Hi Ken,
thank you for the suggestions. The video was given to me by a friend and I honestly don't know how his iPhone was set up. I just checked that it looked good with a Windows video player and I didn't have any other problems. I will try to run the video in the program you suggested, hoping to be able to correct the FPS without problems. I will let you know.
Thanks again.

The green mark indicates a Smart Proxy file. It used to have a film shape, but now it's green.

Re: Problem with video import
I've tried converting iPhone video to various formats with HandBrake, but none allow me to accurately edit the tracks in the timeline. In addition to the terrible quality of the preview, there is always an error of a few seconds in the audio synchronization. Yet even the HandBrake result seen with any Windows player is valid. The format of the original .MOV is as follows:
https://forum.corel.com/download/file.p ... w&id=17814
https://forum.corel.com/download/file.p ... w&id=17815
I tried converting it to MP4 HD at both 25fps and 50fps, but nothing changed, I also did other tests but without success. Is it possible I'm doing something wrong?
Yet it's strange that it's only VS that gives me problems. Why isn't the vision the same as that of a simple player, even by changing the fps? Is VS lacking something?

Re: Problem with video import
Those images of the format of the video certainly confirm that it was shot using variable frame speed (26.61 fps). Given that Italy uses PAL, it should be 25/50, though you say that this still gives poor quality and problems after converting in Handbrake.
First off, you shouldn't be taking much notice of what you see in the VideoStudio preview screen. The quality there has always - always! -- been far from ideal. But have you actually rendered any of the converted video into final format and then played it in an outside player like the freeware VLC or whatever other Windows video player you use?
As for the discrepancy in the audio, I can only suggest that when you render the video, you turn off SmartRender. Rendering may take a little longer, but this often eliminates problems, including with the audio.

Re: Problem with video import
Hi Ken,
Thanks for the reply. Trying again with the files converted at 50 and 25 fps, it seems that the 50fps one is more stable than the other. Something probably bothered him during the conversion, but I don't know what. I don't know if the Advanced Proxy could have influenced this, but it is now disabled and I certainly won't re-enable it since the problem now seems solved.
Thanks again.
