saved file size over 1 GB

Post by teenybop61 »

I recently started using paintshop pro 2021 ultimate since my vista laptop died and I could no longer use psp 9. My problem is that as I am working on a file and I save it to complete it later it is saving over 1 GB in size. My old psp usually was only 95 MB. The problem is that when I try and open it to work on it later, it is crashing because the file is so big. Is there a certain setting that I need to adjust.

It could be the size of the History.
Go to File / Preferences / General preferences / Miscellaneous and uncheck "Save edit history to image metadata".
It will prevent future size increases.
To delete the actual history in your file, use the History Remover here:

I did fix the preference but I am not sure I can get the file open to run the script. I did download it though. Hopefully I can get the file open in paintshop pro to run it and get the file much smaller to finish. Otherwise, I will have to start all over with it.

I'm too busy today, but tomorrow I'll change the script to let you choose the file rather than having to open it. I'll also see if I can't speed it up a bit more, as 1GB is quite a bit of data.

Okay, I have updated the script. It removes the requirement to open the image in PSP. When you run it, if you already have an image open it'll ask if you want to remove the history form the current image. If you say "no" or if you don't have any images open then it'll open a "File Open" dialog. Navigate to the image or images you want to remove the history from and it'll create a new history free image and then open the new image in PSP.

Speed of the script is also vastly improved. In my tests the speed went from taking 30 minutes on a 500MB image to less than a second.

Just re-download the script from the same link.

Oh thank you so much, that worked like a charm. It is now a way more manageable size, I can open it now. You saved me a lot of time trying to recreate it.

Can you be more specific when you say it "won't run"?

Does the script output window pop-up with an error? If not, can you open the Script Output Palette (View->Palettes->Script Output) and tell me what it says when you try to run the script?

Also have you restarted PSP?
