When capturing from a Sony digital camcorder to Ulead DVD Movie Factory, the image on both computer screen and a CD/DVD is very low resolution. Large pixels. If camcorder is hooked direct to TV, video is fine.
We're using a USB cable and not the IEEE 1394. Does that make the difference ? Using USB as it came with the camera and I've never seen a IEEE 1394. Using a recent Dell and I don't recall seeing any port or plug different than USB.
Thanks

Firewire is the universal preferred method to transfer video.
It also depends on your camcorder model.
If it's a new camcorder it might support usb-2 spec and stream via usb2.
The firewire connection is preferred and most reliable for transferring the DV tape to the computer.
If you need to buy a firewire card for the computer Adaptec makes a nice reliable 3 port pci card. Sometimes they also come with a cable.
The camcorder uses a 4 pin din, usually the connection on the computer is a 6 pin. Usually a 4pin to 6pin firewire cable is used.
If you using win2000 or XP just plug the card in and turn on the machine. No need to install drivers, they are part of the win2000/XP operating system.
Hope this helps,

This more likely to be the capture setting in movie factory. What are you setting the capture resolution and quality or bitrate to? Are you capturing real time from the camcorder via usb to moviefactory?
If you are you might be better off transfering footage to the pc in the DV codec and then editing it and converting it to a DVD in Ulead after.

Help please, just brought MovieFactory 3 and new to all this. I have exactly the same problem as described above (even using a sony camcorder).
Does using usb instead of the IEEE 1394 produce poorer quality ??
Regarding post:-
1. "more likely to be the capture setting in movie factory."
What should the settings be ??
2. "Are you capturing real time from the camcorder via usb to moviefactory?"
I am , what other ways are there ??
3. "If you are you might be better off transfering footage to the pc in the DV codec and then editing it and converting it to a DVD in Ulead after."
How do you do that ???
Thanks for your help, sorry these are probably simple questions but I don't know anything about this and the MovieFactory box looked like it was simple for someone without any experience
Thanks
