Clips In Edit Muted

Post by CrunchyFr0g »

Hi

I've used VS for about 12 years now. I recently had a computer crash and installed a fresh copy of X10 to the new PC. Both old and new PCs run Windows 10.
I'm getting a problem I've never had before and I wonder if anyone has any ideas that might help.

- If I load a clip in the timeline and click play, it plays from the beginning, with sound. In other words, all normal.
- Audio is there - you can see the WAV track.
- If I pause and click to another point in the clip, then press play, sound is muted.
- If I look at mute buttons - either from right-clicking the clip and looking at mute, or clicking adjust volume and looking at mute, or checking the mixer, nothing appears muted.
- However, if I click mute in the adjust volume box, then unclick it, the clip now plays with audio.

So, it appears that some setting is defaulting to 'mute' even though I haven't selected it.

Before I try an uninstall/reinstall, I thought I'd check if anyone knows what this might be.

Many thanks

Version? 2017

So it's looking like all clips are muted by default until you mute and unmute them? Assume this persists even if you save the project and re-load it?

Yes it persists if I save and then re-load a project, with these caveats:

1. When I first put a clip in the timeline and press play, it plyas with audio from the beginning.
2. It's muted only when I pause it and move the cursor to another pont in the clip and press play
3. Thereafter, it's always muted, even when playing from the start
4. If I save and re-load, it's muted even from the start

Hi
Just tried using X10 and have no problems with sound, plays in clip and project mode, stop start play in different places always plays, tested with MTS and MP4 video, also tried the sound sample SP-M01.mpa
What type of clips are you using?

Can you check that X10 is up to date, help check for updates, I see X10.5.0.60

If the sound is ok in project playback then rendering via share should be ok.
You mention Wav track, are you testing in Sound Mixer only or both, that is on the edit timelines, video track overlay tracks or audio tracks?
If you play the clips from the library do you have sound?

I recall a similar issue a long time ago now, don’t know if that was X10?

Try changing the 100 volume level to 99, does audio now play in clip mode?

I've just noticed what's happening here. It's not as random as I thought, although I still don't know what's causing it.
Sound is audible when I'm using the 'Clip' setting, but muted when I'm using the 'Project' setting.
