Frame Tool - Frame appearance changes in final jpg

Post by greyguru »

I upgraded to 2023 to augment my photo editor with some extra tools for composite images, and especially the frame tool. (So I'm probably a bit rusty in some PS basics!) However, I got a basic composite done with 6 frames on a background. The small images tended to blend in with the background, so I wanted to add a border around each one. It tool me a while to realize that what I was seeing was a combination of the rectangle and the fill colour. Interestingly, the proper colour showed when I turned off the visibility of the rectangle layer in each frame group. So finally I had something that looked right in the edit tab, but when I saved image as a jpg, there was no border. My other editor could display the embedded image in the pspimage file, and that did show the borders!

Now at one point, I did get the jpg to show the borders, which I believe I managed by either making the rectangle visible or invisible, I don't remember, but the borders were 20px wide and too obvious, so I made them smaller again, and never did manage to get them to show in the jpg. I'm pretty sure it must have been some combination of settings that I never reproduced, although I think I tried all the reasonable combinations.

None of the videos or help pages that I've looked at seem to even mention the possibility of changing border appearance, except to do it all in a background template before using the frame tool.

My questions are:
(1) What is the proper sequence for changing the border appearance (width, colour), so that the jpg will show the changes?
(2) Is there a way to copy the properties of one frame (except for size and location) to another frame, or else to select multiple frames and change the border appearance for all simultaneously?

Alternatively, if the frame tool isn't supposed to do what I'm asking of it, please let me know! Many Thanks!
