mpeg2 encoding

I have a capture card with a hardware mpeg2 encoder that came with software called PowerCinema. I use this program to capture my videos because since it came with the capture card, it will probably take advantage of the hardware encoder on the card.

So my question is, in your opinion, if I used videostudio 8 to do my capturing, would it still automatically know to use the hardware mpeg2 encoder?

No. You'd need a capture plugin specific to the device.

However, you can capture using the existing software, and then edit the file using Videostudio.
