Unable To Paste

Ever since I upgraded to PaintShop Pro 2023, I have been unable to use the paste function.

This is not due to the question of which keys to use. Even if I copy using the drop-down menu to Copy and then attempt to Paste, all of the paste options are greyed out. Similarly, if I copy an image from an outside program and try to paste, no paste options are available.

This is also not a question of available memory. I have 32 GB of RAM and 1.7 TB of available disc space.

Has anyone else run into this probem? If so, how did you fix it?

I've been using PaintShop Pro since the 1980's (when it was shareware on old MS-DOS systems), and understand the program well, but I have never run into this problem before!

You could try a reset as that seems to fix a multitude of issues.

Can we also assume that you have also tried using Ctrl+V to insert (and Ctrl+C to copy)? I have just tried that in PSP 2023, and it certainly works for me once a new space or another image is open in the PSP workspace...

Look into manual how those copying commands works. I you used some old version it perhaps changed a little bit.

One very long time bug I have seen is that if you have a vector tool active, the Paste command does not work. I have no idea why but do you have a vector tool active? If so, change it to anything else (like the Move tool) and try again.

Realy a bug? I would expect that vector layer accepts only such objects.

Paste should never care about the current layer type. Only "Paste Into Selection" and "Paste as Vector Selection" have any pre-requisites. Namely, an existing selection in the image, or vector data in the clipboard respectively. The others, it doesn't matter.

Paste As New Layer - Creates a new layer
Paste As New Image - Creates a whole separate image
Paste As New Selection - Creates a floating selection that can then be promoted to a separate layer or defloated
Paste As Transparent Selection - does the same as above but removes a specific color.

None should care whether you have a vector layer, or tool selected.

Don't forget Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert to copy/paste respectively for other older users like me.
I still use those keyboard commands and both worked (for me) with PSP2021 and PSP2023 trial versions.

Windows11 might've locked the clipboard, its a known issue when win11 decides something should be copyright protected...
To test for this, restart PC, ensure no web-browswer/video/media player apps are running. Press PrintScreen button and then start PSP and try to paste.
- If pastes screenshot then win11 locked clipboard earlier.
- If it won't paste then run SFC /scannow

Alternatively use WindowsKey+V key to see clipboard manager in Windows11 and see if anything copied is there?

Windows 10/11 gets those "features" silently. Then we fight how to dissable it...
