Post by NeilT »

I.m using ultimate 23, have been using paint shop since about 4. Never before have I had a problem with the program running so slow.
So far I have reinstalled and Cleaned out old files
It is still so slow I am thinking of looking for an alternative
Any suggestions
Thank you in advance

PSP uses C++ 2012 and 2013 both are x86.

The link you provided, shows that those have both x86 and x64 versions. Which would make sense. Even if the newer versions of PSP were still made with VC++ 2012 a 64-bit program needs 64-bit libraries.

I dumped the entire piece of software. It took way too long just to open up. Very sluggish. Switched to paint.net. Much better.

Paint.Net is good for quick edits but it doesn't have as many options PSP.

If PSP isn't working well for them, there are tons of options to move to. Everything has its pros and cons. I like GIMP but the UI is still clunky. Affinity Photo is quite nice if you don't need scripting, and often cheaper than PSP unless you're getting a good deal from somewhere else. Paint.NET works well for many many things. Plugins for all of these offer greater feature sets so you're not limited to what you were given. And those are just the ones for photo editing, there are fantastic free/open source or affordable options for design, digital painting, etc.

Heck even Microsoft Paint is starting to act like an actual editor though still severely lacking. Their background removal is better than PSP's by a mile. And if you don't mind having Microsoft Track you by logging into an MS account, it can even do generative AI now.

Hopefully, this year off of creating a whole new version is being utilized to really tackle the quality of the app as well as the feature set of PSP.
