Screen captures with text

Post by zaphodikus »

Whenever I do a screen cap, I find it super hard to not get blocky and jsut plain blurred text when I resize the footage for my project dimensions , text just goes out unless you set your project to the exact same dimensions or for example do a 50% scale.

Anyone got any good tutorials on how to deal with screen recordings and not getting them to blur? I'm guessing you have to rely on panning? But any clues would be great right now.

Are you in Clip or Project mode when you take the screenshot? The latter will take on the Properties of the clip if you are in Clip mode at the time. So if those Properties are worse than those Properties set for the Project, then your screenshot quality will be worse. And if you are in Project mode and the its Properties are higher quality than the Clip properties, then your screenshot should also be better quality...

I'm recording my screen, while demonstrating an app, but my display geometry is probably just unusual. My workaround is to make sure I choose my project display size to be higher resolution than my screencast. I had for some reason thought there were other ways to get text sharp easily in a workflow. So that at least confirms, just make the project settings same or better than the clip.

Since you like ffmpeg, why not use ShareX? Works great for screen captures and screen recordings.

Brilliant suggestion @rwernyei I keep seeing ShareX mentioned by people and mostly I'm using the slightly annoying AMD screen cap program, or Microsoft Teams for caps. ShareX looks like the tool that will save me some pain going forward. Thanks.

Zaph,

I came across ShareX because our monthly film club meetings are held in person in Amherst New York and via Jitsi stream. Jitsi can record but it uses WebM format. For archiving purposes, I find WebM difficult for editing. ShareX works perfectly capturing the meetings in MP4 H.264 1080p 30fps.
Allows me to record both speakers and microphone sound using a command. You're familiar with ffmpeg so it's easy to follow. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/727 ... -in-sharex

Hope this helps.
