PSP 2023: Resize function takes much longer

Post by DaveG74 »

I am a PSP 2019 refugee freshly into 2023. I have been using Paint Shop Pro for many years, and this version is pretty smooth, nothing much new there.
However, I noticed that some simple functions take longer than they did in 2019.

For instance, when I resize an image, when I manually enter the Width value, it now takes almost a second for the Height value to auto-populate.
Also, resizing an image that only took about two seconds to process in PSP 2019 takes a whole thirty-eight seconds to process in PSP 2023. Unacceptable.

What gives? Is there any way to resolve this issue or are we stuck with the delays in these functions?

I didn't want to upgrade to 2023, but I did because, per the recent buyout of Corel, I was afraid the cost or license model might change next year. Now I'm considering downgrading again.
Please advise. Thanks in advance.

AI resize is enabled by default and takes longer to resize.
If you want a faster resize, without AI, uncheck 'Advanced and AI-Powered settings' in the Resize window.

Thank you for your prompt response. Based on this, here are my results:

(Tested resizing an image to above 100%.)

Smart Size is the slowest option.
Bicubic and Bilinear are fastest. But no matter what, it will always default back to "AI-powered"...on each individual render. There's no "last used" option that stays like before.

PSP 2019's default "Resample" option was "Bicubic", and it didn't take that long. Even with "Advanced and AI" disabled, the Resize still takes long.

I don't know if it's my OCD, but I'm guessing as of late, I'll have to disregard my need for simplicity and get used to this.
I'm exiting this thread. Thank you for your help. :)

In my experience resize is about the same if you use the same settings as on previous program setup. I take into account that my pc is idiotically quicker than before too. Yes, the default setting is much slower but the results are better since it calculates much better.

Previously, it was better to zoom out and printscreen than resize down. I think that is still the same now but I am so used to doing it manually, I haven't checked. Even going as far as doing this on a circle shaped logo and then drawing a circle shape on top, converting it to raster and using that to cut out the image perfectly.

I wonder if this helps corel at all in that the process is pretty much instant.

The resize function takes much longer in Batch Process in version 2023. Is this normal?
