Audio Not Synchronized With Video

Post by rcktexas »

A movie clip plays correctly in Preview but when rendered to an ISO and burned to a DVD +RW it has some very serious problems.

1) Frames freeze but the audio continues.

2) When the frames unfreeze, the audio is way out of sync.

If I render with "Two Pass" on, it works much better but there is still some lip sync error.

I have installed the latest patch but it has not fixed this problem.

When is this problem going to be fixed?

What are the properties of your source material?
Right-Click on the Thumbnail and select "Properties".
Post them back to this thread.

One of the worst offending clips is this one. It exhibits frame freeze while the audio goes on and then when the video starts again, the audio is way ahead. At the end there is nothing but video, because the audio has already finished.

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Make sure to have the lates 4.03 update installed.

How did you create that clip. There's probably something wrong with it.

The clip's properties are dvd compliant but it sounds like something is
wrong with the mpeg2 file.

Why is the file being rendered, have you edited the clip?
Try burning to dvd-r media.

Yes, it is installed but makes no difference.

I ripped it from a DVD I made. It was made from compressed video. I will know in a few days if this is the problem since I will have the original to test.

Indeed. It was MF4 that created the mpeg file. However if I do a Two Pass render, the anomolies go away for the most part.

It's the One Pass render that is screwing up.

Of course I edited it - why else would I use MF4. However the editing consisted solely in creating the clip from a DVD. That is, the clip consists of one scene from a DVD and it is not otherwise edited any further.

I did and of course it makes absolutely no difference. The content on a DVD is digital, which is not dependent on the media. The VIDEO_TS files on a DVD +RW disc are essentially identical to those on a DVD -R disc.

I do get somewhat different, albeit still messed-up, results if I play the clip on my DVDR versus my computer.

OK, I got an original DVD and therefore there is no compression issue. I imported it into DVD MovieFactory (I defeated the copy protection using AnyDVD first, and DVDFAB Decrypter second, on separate imports).

One Pass compilation results in the same kind of behavior - frozen frames and audio mis-sync. Two Pass fixes most of that but there is still a slight mis-sync in the audio - the lips are not synchronized with the voice.

There is something very wrong with DMF4. This problem seems to plague all the DVD authoring tools to one extent or the other.

This forum does not support dvd ripping. That is illegal.

Who said I am doing any illegal ripping. If I own the DVD then I can make copies for my use. All I want to do is make a DVD that has favorite scenes from DVDs I own.

What do you thing people use MovieFactory for?

Hello,

Unfortunately that is not the way the laws are written.

I sent you a PM explaining the forum policy on this subject.
