VSP file opens empty project
Hi all,
I'm using VideoStudio Ultimate 2021 on Windows 10.
Some months ago I created a video-DVD containing a collection of my sons BigBand performances. After this was done I moved the whole folder containing the VSP files, Video files, pictures, etc. to my external backup USB drive.
Yesterday he asked me, that one of his friends wants to have this DVD too.
So I opened the VSP file on the USB drive and found, that VideoStudio presented only an empty project.
So my questions are:
- what caused this to happen? There was no error message like "missing files" or "file cannot be found" - just an empty project without comment.
- how can I get access to the content without re-doing the whole stuff with titles, transitions, etc.?
I assume, this is because I moved the complete folder from the original location to the backup drive, but I'm not sure...
Could it be, that VStudio saves fixed paths instead of relative paths? Can this be avoided?
Regards
Delta

Re: VSP file opens empty project
When you first opened the .vsp file, did you get any message saying you need to relink? Normally, you should have since the .vsp file itself would not have changed automatically with the move to your external drive. It would instead be telling Video Studio to look in the original place everything was stored on your original drive, and when it couldn't find anything there, it should prompt you to look elsewhere. Then you would simply insert the new drive coordinates and it should see one of the video files and begin to link up the project with the files again.

Hi Ken,
thanks for your answer.
What you describe is exactly what I would have expected, but nothing happens. It doesn't matter if I double-click the VSP file or if I start VideoStudio first and the open the VSP file. In either case it shows an empty project.
I also tried to move that whole folder to the place where I it was created, but this doesn't make a difference - besides the factz thatr I'm not 100% sure where it was created.
I also tried to inspect teh VSP file with notepad in order to find a hin t to the original path, but since its binary or something I mostly see only garbage.
The VSP file isn't small, it's about 600kb. So I guess there should something in, but the project is empty

Video Studio.......
When we exit the burner module we are prompted to save the project, this is only saving the burner details. When we open this vsp yes the timelines are empty, now go to Share – Disc – DVD and the burner settings should be available including the menu. We should be able to burn another disc.
However you have moved some files that may have corrupted the vsp file.

Re: VSP file opens empty project
You can search the VSP file for .VSP and it should give you the original location where the project was stored. You can also find out what video or photo files were stored by using mp4 or jpg as search parameters.Delta123 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 9:36 pm Hi Ken,

When opening the VSP file and the go to the burner module it shortly says "Loading project..." and then I can't hit the "Next" Button because it is greyxed out. See screenshot

Re: VSP file opens empty project
This worked and I found the original location of the VSP file. But this differs only from the drive letter. The rest of the path remains the same.

Hi Delta
Your best option may be to use another program to copy the DVD disc to disc, the free app ImgBurn should be able to copy the DVD disc to another disc, I am sure there are other apps available.
https://www.imgburn.com/
Your main project vsp contains the clips within the timeline with all edits, this is a different vsp to the one saved from the burner module .
If you have that vsp available then it should open although may require relinking to your files.
Again moving the projects files will cause problems.
Other burner options.......
Creating an Image file iso of the disc can be played to check quality, then burn the disc using the iso, of course can be use to burn additional discs.
As mentioned the easy option may be to copy the disc

Re: VSP file opens empty project
Hi Trevor,
if it was only about burning the same disc another time there are multiple options. But I want to remove one clip from the DVD before burning again. That's the reason why I wanted to open the VSP file and edit the project before burning again.

Re: VSP file opens empty project
The vsp you found does appear to be the file saved from the burner module as it indicated “loading project”
You should have another vsp from the main project when you inserted the video files to the timelines in Edit tab.
You can copy the dvd to video studio using Insert digital media, this will save the files as mpeg2..
Start a new project then right click timeline for Insert Digital Media
Some info here.....
https://lata.me.uk/corel/importdvd/dvd.htm
Now you should be able to cut out the clip, then render using same as first video clip.
Using the new file to burn a disc.
Start a new project – nothing on the timelines
Share – disc – dvd, opens the burner module
Here we add our mpeg2 video file

Hi Trevor,
cool - that worked: But I already re-didi the DVD, because it didn't have so much clips.
But that tip is defintiely worth for remembering !
