Materials Buttons PSP 2023

Can someone please tell me how to get the Materials Buttons back? The Help info describes how to use them but I cannot find the info on enabling them.
This is what I am seeing. I've been using solid colors but somehow lost the buttons to switch materials.

The buttons show or don't show depending on what you're clicking on to open the material dialog. Some commands only take colors, so clicking them will only show the color button. Some let you choose whatever you want and so those other options will also be available.

For example, on the materials palette there are 4 color buttons: 2 big, 2 small. The 2 big ones for foreground and background when you click on them they shows the full dialog with gradient, pattern, and texture. However, if you click on the 2 small foreground and background squares they only show the color option.

If you click on the helper color chooser buttons for the text tool, text can use patterns and textures so those are available when you click on those buttons

If you click on the color chooser in the Canvas Size dialog it only accepts color and so only color is available.

So what are you clicking on to get your color dialog box?

To answer your question I had been clicking on the large foreground and background (as usual). I'm glad you explained it because yesterday I was working on text colors so I must have switched things around and not realized it. I'm back to "normal" now. Much appreciated!
