Sound not being captured

Post by detectingdavid »

Hi all,
Been using CS Ultimate2023 for a while now happily capturing and editing vhs videos but suddenly my set up is no longer capturing sound?
Have a Sharp VCR/DVD combo video recorder (almost never been used when I got it a few months ago)
My setup below direct into the vhs recorder.
Any ideas why VideoStudio is no longer capturing the sound?
Many thanks in advance
David

Hi David,
If you switch the setup to a different source like your camcorder does it capture sound?

As Vdanny suggested try another source first. Otherwise, start troubleshooting with connectivity. Have you used the Sharp VHS/DVD combo unit before? In it's Menu settings make sure audio output is PCM (LPCM). Then try doing sample capture with Win 10 Camera app, VLC, OBS, etc. to see if you have audio in your captured file. If so, try CVS Ultimate 2023 again and see if this corrected the issue. If not, you know the culprit is CVS and a setting must have changed since last use. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice.
I've tried a different set-up and still no sound, I used both set ups about a week ago and both worked fine?
I disconnected and reconnected everything but still nothing. Video fine but no audio?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I've just tried both a setup using OBS and no sound.
So, I'm guessing it must be with the Capture card "Papeaso 4K HDMI to USB capture card" (this is only a few month old)
or the RCA to HDMI Adapter.
Any clues as to which one it might be?
Thanks in advance

Hi
I assume your pc does not have a hdmi input otherwise you would not need the hdmi to usd capture device?
Strange that capture worked before, so what has changed with your setup?

You could try using your devices to capture video only, connecting the VHS directly to the pc sound input (line-In or maybe Mic) using a RCA red / white to 3.5mm

Hi all,
ordered another capture card and another RCA/HDMI adapter and after swapping the RCA adapter, bingo, we have sound again.
A few quid more expensive than the old adapter but seems much more well built and substantial than the last one
- eoteck Model:NTK023c just if anyone is interested
Anyway thanks guys for the help as always - a great forum.

Damm, spoke too soon.
Tried a short capture and the sound worked but now its not working again?
Could it be a problem with CVS?
How would I go about checking?

What capture settings are you using especially for audio.
I have an Ezcap usb device that showed USB Audio within the programs capture properties.

Given time i will find the device to see how 2023 handles usb video capture
My capture device had its own capture software by Arcsoft which i could use instead of cvs.

Did your devices come with any capture software?

Back in the day I used an ADS Instant DVD unit that was packaged with Ulead VideoStudio and Sonic MyDVD. Ulead wrote a proprietary driver to use within its software. Your unit should have shipped with drivers and capture software or offered options.

Here's a good YouTube video for using an Amazon USB capture device with OBS.

If this method works, capture all your footage this way and then edit in CVS.

Tried this method with OBS and its work, so will continue doing this until I get some feedback from CVS support, thanks for the advice.
If its deemed the software, what will CVS support do? Anyone with any experience with faulty software?
One question, regards file size that CVS generates for MP4 files vs OBS - is there any reason why a capture file through OBS is approx a quarter of the size compared to CVS?
Thanks again guys
